The potential performance at the box office for Avatar: The Way of Water is a hot topic, considering that the first Avatar film is the highest-grossing film ever made and that the sequel will have to smash into the box office for it to even make a profit. The CEO of IMAX, Richard Gelfond, is confident the long-awaited return to Pandora will succeed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gelfond claimed that Avatar: The Way of Water will have "one of the highest pre-sale levels we’ve ever seen" during a conference at the Wells Fargo TMT summit, although he couldn't reveal the exact numbers. He also said, "I’m extremely excited about Avatar getting into China.”
