The long-gestating Heat sequel has taken a big step forward. According to a new report by Deadline, Warner Bros. is now officially in negotiations with Michael Mann for the filmmaker to return to the director's chair for Heat 2 nearly three decades after the release of the original film in 1995. The news follows the release of Mann's Heat 2 novel, which was released to high sales last year, perhaps giving the movie version the momentum it needed to finally get its way out of development hell. The novel will likely serve as a blueprint for the movie version of the follow-up to Heat.
