Filmmaker and DC Studios co-head James Gunn may be moving full steam ahead on Superman: Legacy, but he's not standing in the way of a certain other Superman project from getting made. Back in 2021, it was reported that J.J. Abrams would produce a Superman reboot film with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing the script. More recently, Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins at DC Studios, and one of the first orders of business was to develop a Superman reboot of their own. Dubbed Superman: Legacy, the film has already been given a premiere date, set to hit theaters in the summer of 2025.When Gunn and Safran came into the picture at DC Studios, plans to make more movies with Henry Cavill's Superman were immediately scrapped. That may lead to speculation that the previously-announced project from Abrams and Coates would also be tossed. However, speaking with i09, Gunn explained that the production of Superman: Legacy won't be affected by Abrams and Coates' movie, and vice versa. He clarifies that he hasn't yet seen a screenplay for the film personally, adding that if the film gets made, it would be set in its own standalone universe, similar to Joker and The Batman.
