David Fincher's Gone Girl would have starred Jon Hamm if not for scheduling conflicts getting in the way. Released in 2014, Gone Girl was directed by Fincher and written by Gillian Flynn, who also authored the original book the film is based on. The movie stars Ben Affleck as a man who becomes the prime suspect in the sudden disappearance of his wife (Rosamund Pike). Upon release, it pulled in more than $369 million at the box office, making Gone Girl Fincher's highest-grossing film. It was also up for many awards, including a Best Actress Oscar for Pike, and the reviews were quite positive, landing at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
