This weekend saw the theatrical premiere of the new animated feature Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, and the results are not great. The film, a big-budget feature from DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures, has opened to just $5.2 million at the domestic box office. It just barely debuts at No. 8, topping The Little Mermaid by around $50,000, though it's worth noting that the latter is now in its sixth weekend in theaters, having since earned more than $523 million worldwide. Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken will certainly not be seeing those kinds of numbers, as it only pulled in another $7.5 million overseas, ultimately opening at around $12.7 million worldwide.
