First published in 1979 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Stephen King’s novel ‘The Long Walk’ has been the subject of Hollywood lore since 1988, when Night of the Living Dead director George Romero was first approached to adapt the book into a feature film. The project never came to fruition, and over the years it seemed as if the movie would linger in development hell forever, until 2018, when New Line Cinema acquired the rights to the novel. There hasn’t been much talk of it since then, but now it looks like The Long Walk is stepping in the right direction with Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence attached to breathe new life into the dystopian novel.
