Even with a sequel on the way, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One was never intended to end with a major cliffhanger ending to tease the next installment. While not getting into specifics here, so as to avoid divulging spoilers, the ending was devised by star Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie to feel like a "satisfying" conclusion of the story, even if the door is left open to hint at what's to come in Dead Reckoning Part Two. In a new interview with Total Film, McQuarrie reveals how insistent Cruise had been that the Part One should not end with a typical cliffhanger that's usually found at the end of these kinds of two-part movies.
